What each category means
Every market listing has one primary category, and can carry secondary tags — a Christmas craft fair is both.

Christmas Markets
Launch season 2026
Our launch category for 2026. City-centre Christmas markets and small community festive fairs, typically running from mid-November to just before Christmas. Vendor applications usually open in August and close through September and October.
Weekly or fortnightly markets selling fresh produce, artisan food, baked goods and preserves. Because they recur, farmers’ markets are the natural second category — the same vendors and organisers come back week after week.
Fairs for handmade goods — ceramics, knitwear, jewellery, prints, candles, woodwork. Usually one-day or weekend events, often indoors, and often with a handmade-only rule that organisers enforce at application stage.
Street food markets, food halls and specialty food events. These carry the strictest requirements — expect to provide food safety certification and, for hot food, details of your setup and power needs.
Antique and collectors fairs, retro clothing and second-hand book fairs. Stallholders are often long-standing traders with an established circuit of events.
Community car boot sales, usually in a field or car park, usually on a Sunday morning. Most operate turn-up-on-the-day rather than by application — the platform supports both.
Evening markets with food, music and craft, concentrated in the summer months. Lighting and power are the practical questions organisers get asked most.
A catch-all so no organiser is ever blocked from listing. If enough markets land here, it becomes a signal that we need a new category — which is exactly how the taxonomy is meant to grow.
The category list is designed to be extended, not rebuilt. If a type of market keeps appearing under General / Other, that is our signal to add it properly.
